Chazs triple podium

23 August 2015

Frosty gets stuck in pack

The Pepsi Max Crew now occupies the top two spots in the driver championship after a stellar weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park with Mark Winterbottom leading Chaz Mostert by 174 points.

Mostert now holds a five-podium streak after finishing first, third and first in each of the Sydney Motorsport Park races in a standout weekend for the young-gun.

Rain appeared halfway through race 23 causing havoc along pit lane, which resulted in damage to a number of cars including Car 5.

Frosty  was pleased with his pace throughout the day, however was unlucky to receive a knock from Craig Lowndes putting him back in the field after making up positions.

The drivers will next appear at the Sandown 500 next month to kick off the Pirtek Enduro Cup.

Mark Winterbottom - #5 Pepsi Max PRA Ford:
Race 23 Quali: 12th
Race 23 Result: 16th
“Qualifying was poor but the race was good and my wet pace was really strong. I passed six cars in two laps and was flying but then I got a big hit in the rear from Lowndes at Turn 2. I had bent steering with around 25 laps to go in the wet which ruined the speed. I survived as much as I could but we didn’t get the reward for the pace we had. We will bounce back, work on it and get back into it at Sandown in a few weeks.”

Chaz Mostert - #6 Pepsi Max PRA Ford:
Race 23 Quali: 3rd
Race 23 Result: 1st
"It's been a fantastic weekend. I finished all the races, got a pretty good bank of points and we're second in the championship. It's good that our team is one, two at the moment but we need to try and maintain that through to the end of the year. The enduros are obviously a big part of the championship so we just need to be solid there. I'm driving with Cam (Waters) and when we get to Sandown it's one of my favourite tracks so I'm just looking forward to getting into it and seeing where we end up. We've got to be consistent and try and finish races."

Tim Edwards – Team Principal
"It's great to get another win for the weekend and three podium finishes. Chaz did a fantastic job to get out to a strong lead in the wet and he really knows how to handle those conditions. Mark was a bit unlucky, being pushed around in the pack and getting some damage but we'll turn our focus to the enduros now with Sandown in a few weeks."
