3rd gives frosty a fighting chance

13 September 2014

frosty starts 3rd

Ford Pepsi Max Crew’s Frosty and Steve Owen will start the Sandown 500 from the second row after a consistent day of running placed them third on the grid.
They raced cleanly and smartly in the two qualifying sprints and will enjoy a strong starting position for tomorrow’s 500-kilometre race.
Chaz and Paul Morris endured a tougher day and will start 17th.
Chaz is confident his clean air race pace will help he and Morris finish in the top 10 – his stated goal for the first of the Enduro Cup events.

Mark Winterbottom & Steve Owen - #5 Pepsi Max FPR Ford
Qualifying: 4th
Qualifying Sprint 1: 3rd – Owen
Qualifying Sprint 2: 3rd – Winterbottom
Start Sandown 500: 3rd
Winterbottom: “It is good to be up the front again and third is a great starting position for tomorrow. It relieves a lot of the pressure that racing in the pack brings as that’s what we’ve done at the last two events and its cost us. We’ve still got a bit of work to do as our pace isn’t competitive enough yet. Steve did a great job and we both know that we have to be patient tomorrow as it will be a long day with a lot of things thrown at us.”
Chaz Mostert & Paul Morris - #6 Pepsi Max FPR Ford
Qualifying: 16th
Qualifying Sprint 1: 22nd – Morris
Qualifying Sprint 2: 17th – Mostert
Start Sandown 500: 17th
Mostert: “It was a tough old day for car six. I qualified poorly which was annoying as all the other guys seemed to do well. In the first race Paul was hampered by my poor qualifying and he did a good job to stay out of the craziness. He handed it over to me and I moved up a few spots but it wasn’t far enough. We have good car speed, I was in the top 10 for fastest laps and our pace in clean air wasn’t too bad compared to the leaders. If we can get in the top 10 tomorrow it will be a successful weekend. That was the goal and if we are consistent and mistake-free we can do it.”
Tim Edwards – Team Principal:
“The qualifying format has the potential to throw up varying outcomes but we came through relatively okay with Frosty and Steve having a solid day. From third they can plot out a strong strategy. All round we need to improve our race pace to ensure all cars are as competitive as possible.”
