Title challengers suffer in surfers

Frosty comes 18th after Richo gets damage from kerbs

Ford Pepsi Max Crew endured the tough side of racing on the Gold Coast with title contenders Will and Mark suffering mixed results in Surfers Paradise.

While stable mates David Reynolds and Dean Canto claimed a popular win, Will struggled to ninth due to low rear grip which hampered his progress.

Marks chance of another big points haul was over before he even sat behind the wheel.

Damaged rear suspension with co-driver Steve Richards at the wheel early in the race forced a two-lap delay while the crew made repairs.

The delay dropped the pair to the rear of the field from where they recovered to 18th by race end to salvage some points.

Despite a tough Sunday the pair still leaves the event closer to new series leader Craig Lowndes. Mark is third, 88 points off the lead while Will is fourth, 121 in arrears.

It was a tough day for car five. Richo had some damage in the rear to a couple of components and the crew did a good job to fix it, but we lost two laps so the race became a salvage operation. On our dark day we had good success for Dave and Dean and I am really happy to see them get a win. The great thing about this team is that even when one car has a bad day someone else can get a good result. We leave here 88 points down and while we hoped it wouldve been better we are still well in contention so will keep fighting to the end.

It was looking like we had a great strategy but we ended up further back in the pack than planned so things didnt quite turn out as planned. This place is never easy and today proved that again. I am genuinely happy for Dave to get his first ever win. Dean is a great guy and they have both been close a few times so its great they could give the team another win here.

Tim Edwards FPR Team Principal:
It is so pleasing to see David and Dean win today and also to claim our third-straight Gold Coast 600 Sunday race win. This place is hard on cars and teams so to have been so consistent is very satisfying. It was a tougher day for the rest of the team, especially for championship contenders Mark and Will. Yesterday they gained, today they lost a bit, but weve still closed the points gap this weekend so the battle will continue.
