Frosty back in the hunt

Ford Pepsi Max Crew duo Mark Winterbottom and Will Davison have significantly closed the gap to the points lead after banking solid fourth and sixth place finishes respectively in the opening race of the Winton 360.

The pair enjoyed trouble-free races and now sits 162 and 143 points respectively behind series leader Jamie Whincup.

Their results have also closed the teams gap to the lead in the team title to less-than 200 points.

Mark Winterbottom - #5 Pepsi Max FPR Ford:

Qualifying: 5th

Race 25: 4th

We made a change for the second half which detuned the car unfortunately but the points haul we gained today was important. On days like today where you are not the quickest you just have to survive and fourth place was our best. I am a bit frustrated with the restart as we lost ground but that always happens if you are on the outside. Fourth is okay and we held off (James) Courtney who I thought was quicker than me so I can take some positives from today.

Will Davison - #6 Pepsi Max FPR Ford:

Qualifying: 9th

Race 25: 6th

I consolidated well today from an unfortunate qualifying spot though I wasnt overly happy with the grip level I had on my second set of tyres. We then ran those in the first part of the race so we could put our best set on which after some chassis tweaks made the car feel really good. I eventually got past (Shane) van Gisbergen which wasnt easy as it is hard to pass here so it took time to do it cleanly. Once I got that done we trucked on really well and the car felt nice. If we qualify well tomorrow we can mix it with the leaders.

Tim Edwards FPR Team Principal:

We did what we could today and while we are unhappy the result we wanted wasnt forthcoming, the fact we made a big points gain was critical. Nobody is counting their chickens but todays result so shows what a bit of momentum does. Overall if we qualify better tomorrow we will be a chance to further close the gap and also fight for race wins.
