Frosty finishes 4th

Ford Performance Racing’s Will Davison has finished second in both races at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi.

Davison started on pole for both races but was unable to match the pace of race winner Jamie Whincup, though by the end of race two he felt happier with his pace.

Davison’s two 12-lap races were relatively straight forward, though he had to re-pass Shane van Gisbergen early in race one to reclaim second position.

Mark Winterbottom was forced to fight his way back through the pack in both races and would finish sixth and fourth. Despite missing the podium he feels the car’s race pace is sufficient to battle for the rostrum in tomorrow’s final race.

David Reynolds was tangled in a few mid-pack melees early in race one and after losing places early while avoiding the chaos he recovered to 13th. In the second race he again avoided the opening-lap incidents and actually gained places to finish seventh, one place lower than he will start Sunday’s third and final race.

DRIVERS’ VIEW
Mark Winterbottom – #5 Orrcon Steel FPR Ford
Race 1: 6th – Fastest lap: 2m15.30s
Race 2: 4th – Fastest lap: 2m14.21s
“We moved forward in both races and we are making the car a little bit better but still struggling for pace. We will try and make a few changes overnight and see where we end up tomorrow. We were almost on the podium in race two and we are definitely getting better. There is one more chance to get it right tomorrow so we have to make the most of it.”

Will Davison – #6 Tradingpost FPR Ford
Race 1: 2nd – Fastest lap: 2m14.82s
Race 2: 2nd – Fastest lap: 2m13.63s
“The starts weren’t good enough but they were okay to be honest as they both felt very good. Jamie had two very good starts but I doubt that would’ve made a difference as he just had better pace. The car felt pretty good all round throughout both races but we are just lacking something. I don’t have any major complaints, we just weren’t fast enough. I think we are quicker in a couple of corners so there isn’t much in it and with a few good changes we can attack tomorrow.”

David Reynolds – #55 The Bottle-O FPR Ford
Race 1: 13th – Fastest lap: 2m15.59s
Race 2: 7th – Fastest lap: 2m14.46s
“It was a tough couple of races today but we survived both and I expect more tomorrow. We suffered in the first race because of my qualifying position and a few little incidents didn’t help. There was a little bit of contact in both races but it was nothing too serious as cars were bumping and pushing all throughout the races around me. We are starting sixth tomorrow so we are where we need to be to stay away from all the fighting.”

Tim Edwards – FPR Team Principal
“We didn’t quite have the ultimate pace today but with a few adjustments there is no reason why all three drivers can’t put in a much stronger showing tomorrow. Will didn’t lack much today, but just couldn’t quite manage the ultimate pace, while Frosty gained ground in each race but there isn’t much you can do in just 12 laps. Dave had a few incidents which is typical of the mid-field in these races but he will be clear of that tomorrow so should be in a position to be clear of the chaos.”
