Orrcon Steel duo happy despite lack of clear track in Sydney

3 December 2011

Position 6th and 7th in practice

The Orrcon Steel Ford Performance Racing team drivers, Mark Winterbottom and Will Davison have had a great start to the final round of the 2011 V8 Supercars Championship season – despite a lack of clear running on the Homebush street circuit.

There was plenty of action throughout the four practice sessions today, Winterbottom in the #5 Orrcon Steel FPR Falcon was able to stay clear of it, whilst Davison suffered with brake problems - however set the quickest time of the first all in session.

-Winterbottom stated that in the final session, he was unable to set a time that he was happy with, given the number of fellow drivers that were finding themselves in trouble and the number of red flags.

-Davison's brake issue in practice four meant he wasn’t able to set a time that was indicative. He got two flying laps in.

-The balance on both cars, the guys were reporting, was very good and both are pumped up ahead of qualifying tomorrow.

-Overall, the pair were sixth and seventh – tomorrow they will qualify – hopefully participate in the top 10 shootout and then go on to the first 250km race.

QUOTES FROM THE DRIVERS:
Mark Winterbottom - #5 Orrcon Steel FPR Falcon:
“The Orrcon Steel FPR Falcon is better than what the position showed,” Winterbottom said. “You just couldn’t get any decent laps in. There were guys spearing up the escape road, debris all over the track, it was pretty crazy. Sitting where we are overall isn’t so much related to where our car is. Our times were good and I’m confident of a good showing come tomorrow.”

Will Davison - #6 Trading Post FPR Falcon:
“It was a bit of an up and down day for us, unfortunately we wasted most of the second session with a brake issue,” said Davison. “After finishing the first one on top, we were feeling very good about where we were. On older tyres the car felt very good and when we threw new tyres on it was fast also. So overall, we’re not disappointed – but would have liked to have got more laps in this afternoon.”
