Melbourne's 3.1 kilometre Sandown International Raceway has hosted some incredible races over the past three decades. This circuit is best described as two long dragstrips with some some tight hairpin corners in between. It can be treacherous in the wet (or the hail) and very exciting in the dry. It has been a place where I have achieved significant milestones as I made my V8 Supercar debut at the Sandown 500 back in 2003 and gained my first V8 Supercar victory at the Sandown 500 with Jason Bright in 2006. I also finished second overall at this venue in 2008.

Pre-race report

12 September 2012

10 Rounds in and look out Sandown, the endurance races are finally here. Steve Richards is my codriver and we had two valuable test days last week, giving us both plenty of time in the car. The format is a little different this year with each driver doing a qualifying race on Saturday and where we finish the last race is where we start the 500 on Sunday. Weather is looking clear, so wont be like last years wet race!

Post-race report

16 September 2012

Qualified 6th, Richo got turned around in his race and finished 19th, unfortunately we got excluded and 0 points, a penalty for pushing the car in to the pit box to early after the race. In my race i had brake pedal issues so couldn't pass easily, finishing 16th which is where we started the big one. Finished P2, a fantastic recovery after qualifying. Great drive by Richo and brilliant strategy and pit stops by the FPR boys. We had a few car handling issues but hung in there and tweaked it when we could. In the last stint i caught JW from 3 seconds back, made a pass for P2 and it stuck. Wrapt with the result.
