Melbourne's 3.1 kilometre Sandown International Raceway has hosted some incredible races over the past three decades. This circuit is best described as two long dragstrips with some some tight hairpin corners in between. It can be treacherous in the wet (or the hail) and very exciting in the dry. It has been a place where I have achieved significant milestones as I made my V8 Supercar debut at the Sandown 500 back in 2003 and gained my first V8 Supercar victory at the Sandown 500 with Jason Bright in 2006. I also finished second overall at this venue in 2008.

Pre-race report

25 July 2009

Happy to have our first stay at home round for the year. Sandown should suit our package as the FPR FG Falcon has tended to work better in colder conditions, rather than hot conditions. We feel we are heading in the right direction with our base setup so practice should be more productive than ever. We have got some new bits coming on to the car for this round, hoping they make the added difference we are looking for. Also the return of the soft tyre and a short track will see strategies at their best. Hoping all the local FPR fans come out to this round and bring the luck.

Post-race report

2 August 2009

The up and down continued for us this weekend, we showed promise on Friday, but that didn't follow on to Saturday. I qualified 11th, just missing the top 10, in Race 1 I had a sticking throttle, managing to finish 12th. Changed the engine overnight, qualified 15th and finished 16th in today's race, we got caught out with the safety car queuing behind Richo while he pitted losing a number of positions. Once my fuel load got light the car felt good and i managed to pass 4 cars, we needed a couple more laps to make a few more spots towards the end of the race.
