Frosty collects 3rd place podium

21 May 2016

Solid result at Winton

Prodrive Racing (Australia)'s Mark Winterbottom has added another podium to his 2016 tally, finishing third in race 10 at the Winton SuperSprint. After starting on the front row of the grid, tough start on the high-grip surface put Winterbottom back to third, where he would stay for the remainder of the race. While he was able to close the gap to McLaughlin ahead after the compulsory pit stop, he was unable to pass after battling for most of the race. Chaz Mostert is confident he will now have a good race car ahead of Sunday's 200km race after displaying strong speed in race ten. After starting in 10th, a quick pit stop and pace saw him move to finish seventh, catching Will Davison in the final laps to finish seventh. Cameron Waters has managed a 16th place finish after contact with Courtney mid-race saw him spin off the track. Despite the on-track battle, Waters is confident of his car's speed after qualifying third for the race. Chris Pither remains confident despite qualifying 19th after displaying strong pace in practice. While he was unable to make great inroads in race 10, he feels he will be able to rectify this on Sunday.

DRIVERS’ VIEW
Mark Winterbottom - #1 The Bottle-O PRA Ford:
Qualifying:
 2nd
Race 10: 3rd
"We need to get off the line a bit better. The high grip caught me out. I bunny-hopped a bit and then dipped the clutch in and then took off. Pretty average racing out there with the grip because you just can't pass. I followed the back of the Volvo for I don't know how many laps, I was getting sick of it in the end but he drives away on the straight and in that first sector as well so I tried to hold on and Rick came at the end and it was all on but it was very hard to pass. I tried to make no mistakes, I made no mistakes and just finished as we were."

Cameron Waters - #6 Monster Energy PRA Ford:
Qualifying:
3rd
Race 10: 16th
"It was awesome to qualify up in third for this race and put a good lap together. The start was a bit tricky because of the grip but I got it off the line and ended up in fourth after the first lap. We pitted pretty early and ended up in a few battles and then got caught up with Courtney. I was on the outside of the track and went to turn into five and I didn't expect him to be there so I ended up in the dirt.  I couldn't really do much from there."

Chaz Mostert - #55 Supercheap Auto PRA Ford:
Qualifying:
 10th
Race 10: 7th
"The car definitely felt much better at the end of that race. It wasn't quite there at the start but we had an awesome pit stop and it really came to life in the last part of the race. I didn't quite catch up to the guys ahead of me quick enough, we ran out of laps but I definitely think that we can do better tomorrow and end up a bit closer to the podium. We'll have a look at a few things overnight and make sure we have a good car for tomorrow."

Chris Pither - #111 Super Black PRA Ford:
Qualifying:
19th
Race 10: 18th
"Not where we wanted to be today after being so strong in practice but the racing is so close out there. In qualifying there was only a couple of tenths in it and here, qualifying is really important because it's so hard to pass. I just kept my head down in that one and did what I could. We had an excellent pit stop so thanks to the guys for that one but we just didn't quite get past as many people as I would have liked. We'll focus on qualifying tomorrow and putting a good race package together."

Tim Edwards – Team Principal:
"It was good to get on the podium and see Frosty collect more points. It was really just sticking to times in the end there. The times they were setting were pretty similar and with how high the grip is it makes it hard to pass so there wasn't much he could do from where he was. Obviously we didn't want to see what happened to Cam in the end there but that's racing. It was good to see Chaz have some pace at the end of that one. It's promising for tomorrow where the stints on the tyre will probably be shorter."
