Frosty 2nd in practice

The Pepsi Max Crew has finished day one of practice at the Bathurst 1000 with both cars in the top five  as the drivers once again familiarise themselves with the Mount Panorama track.

Mark Winterbottom and Steve Owen are confident with their progress after starting the day with a bad car; tuning it up to finish second fastest for the day.

After claiming the fastest time in the first session, Chaz Mostert and Cameron Waters continued to make small changes to their car to find the ideal setup, eventually finishing fourth on the time sheet.

The co-drivers will be first to take the track on Friday morning in the second co-driver only practice.

DRIVERS’ VIEW
Mark Winterbottom - #5 Pepsi Max PRA Ford: 2nd – 2m05.57s

“Today got better as we went along. Steve (Owen) did a great job in his session because I handed him a bad car from the first session and it wasn't pretty so he tidied it up and the team did a great job as well to make it competitive. When you've got a good car you feel like it all happens a bit easier so it's nice to hop out and have a car that's nice in spots that this morning was having some pretty big moments when you're doing eights which is pretty scary. But good to finish the day as we have."

Steve Owen - #5 Pepsi Max PRA Ford: 7th – 2m07.74s
"The car is pretty good. We've progressed quite a bit today and the car has come a long way so fingers crossed. The car has ended up being pretty quick. Mark and I are both happy with how things are developing and I definitely think there is a bit more left in it for qualifying. I think he's (Winterbottom) got a bit left in him for qualifying as well but we'll see how we shape up."

Chaz Mostert - #6 Pepsi Max PRA Ford: 4th – 2m5.73s
“I think it was a really solid day. We progressed well and we almost rolled out with the ideal set-up as we were fastest this morning. In Cam’s session we didn’t have the greatest sets of tyres to choose from so he did what he could, but the tyre bank this weekend isn’t the best for us, though the amount of greens we get means it isn’t too bad. On our final run of the day I made a few mistakes coming down the hill so to be fourth with those errors is a good feeling. We will tidy the car up tonight and should be good again tomorrow.”

Cameron Waters - #6 Pepsi Max PRA Ford: 5th - 2m07.69s
“Car #6 was really good. We were quick straight out of the gate and I think Chaz just wants to make some tweaks for qualifying but I am all happy. I need to do some work in the Dunlop Series car but that aside I’ve had a good day.”

Tim Edwards – Team Principal:
"Things are looking good from today. We're taking small steps forward and we got faster as the day went on which is great. As always we still need to tune the cars and hopefully get a bit more out of them and lower those times for qualifying. It'll be good for the co-drivers to get out tomorrow morning and have a good crack at it on some good tyres and see where we're at."
