Frosty wins two from two

The Pepsi Max Crew and Mark Winterbottom claimed back-to-back wins at the Castrol EDGE Townsville 400 after another dominant performance by the team. Two wins from as many races on the Reid Park street circuit gave Frosty the maximum 300 points on offer – extending his lead from 95 to 248 points over nearest rival, Craig Lowndes. Frosty had to work harder for his Sunday win, only passing stable-mate David Reynolds on lap 52 of 70 after The Bottle-O driver ran wide at Turn 1. Chaz was also in contention for the win throughout the race, though he was unable to maintain the ultimate pace and dropped to fifth by race end. Earlier in the day Chaz fared best in the Top 10 Shootout, setting second-best time, with Frosty fifth.

Mark Winterbottom - #5 Pepsi Max PRA Ford: Qualifying: 1st Top 10 Shootout: 5th Race 17: 1st "The speed we had at the end of the race was amazing. While I wasn’t as happy on the hard tyres in the middle stint, it didn’t matter in the end. It was an awesome result for the team and for me personally. We struggled here last year and we’ve put a lot of work in since then so to end up with the results we did, it was incredible. Early in the race I didn’t think we had the pace, but the car dialled in well and it felt really good. To get two wins is just perfect.”

Chaz Mostert - #6 Pepsi Max PRA Ford: Qualifying: 2nd Top 10 Shootout: 2nd Race 17: 5th "We didn’t quite have the pace today but it was still a solid weekend – it was the weekend we should have if we are not quite on the ultimate pace, which was the case. We qualified well and raced well for most of the day but just didn’t have tyre life when it counted. Full credit to Frosty and the whole team. It was awesome to see our car work so well on a street circuit and obviously it was great for both championships so while we have things to learn from the weekend, we’ll be learning from the guys that won the race.” Tim Edwards – Team Principal "We came here wanting to prove the new FG X Falcon could be a contender on a street circuit and we left with two wins, a second and third, pole position and big gains in the points. It was a very satisfying weekend to execute our strategy and it is a credit to the entire team that all four cars we brought here were on the pace. It is our best results of the year as an entire group and we’ll enjoy this one for a few days.” TOWNSVILLE RESULTS – SUNDAY RACE 17 1) Mark Winterbottom – Pepsi Max Crew 2) James Courtney – HRT 3) David Reynolds – The Bottle-O Racing Team 4) Garth Tander – HRT 5) Chaz Mostert – Pepsi Max Crew DRIVER CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS 1) Mark Winterbottom – Pepsi Max Crew: 1465 points 2) Craig Lowndes – Triple Eight: 1217 3) Fabian Coulthard – Brad Jones Racing: 1205 4) David Reynolds – The Bottle-O Racing Team: 1192 5) Chaz Mostert – Pepsi Max Crew: 1183 TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP 1) Pepsi Max Crew: 2648 points 2) Triple Eight: 2331 3) HRT: 2301 DUNLOP SERIES RESULTS – SUNDAY Cameron Waters won his third consecutive Dunlop Series round and with it extended his lead at the head of the table to 145 points. While he didn’t win the final race of the weekend, he finished second to claim maximum points around the challenging Townsville street layout. Cameron Waters - #5 ENZED PRA Ford “I would’ve liked to get pole but starting second was good enough. I am always thinking about the championship and the lead is great but one DNF will take that lead away so we need to keep pushing and working away at taking wins, and if we can’t, like today, just doing the best we can. Second was that today but we still did enough to win the round so I am happy.” - See more at: http://fpr.com.au/news/2015/07/12/frosty-shines-in-townsville-#sthash.zdzCXErs.d
