Frosty and Chaz quick in new FGX

Pepsi Max Crew has made the ideal start to season 2015 with Chaz Mostert claiming pole position in the Super Shootout – the single-lap dash that ended the season-opening two-day SuperTest.
Mostert’s one-lap flyer was set with the top runners from last year’s title still to run but he held them all off to give the new FG X Falcon the perfect start.
Team-mate Mark Winterbottom was less-than one-tenth back in fourth after topping the morning’s test, but the highlight of the weekend was the improvements both found with their latest Ford V8 Supercar.
Winterbottom spoke positively of the range of improvements found and is confident the new car is a strong step in the right direction.
The team will now focus on refining the FG X package ahead of the season-opening Clipsal 500 at the end of the month.

Mark Winterbottom - #5 Pepsi Max Ford:
“Today was really good. We made some good progress and in testing my car was really strong at the end. We tuned it for the shootout but probably not enough for the heat so we lost a little bit on our lap. Saying that, we were still competitive and it is a big step forward for our team after last year. To see Chaz on the shootout pole was great for all of us. We’ve obviously made inroads and it is nice to have a car that is doing what we want it to do.”
Chaz Mostert - #6 Pepsi Max Ford:
“It's fantastic to get a pole position even if it isn't in an official round. The guys at Prodrive Racing have done a fantastic job over Christmas, they didn't even have a break so it's really rewarding for those guys. It was great to put a new car on the track and it hasn't skipped a beat all weekend and when the time counts we can do a quick lap in it so it's definitely a bit better than what we had last year. We thought the balance would be a bit different from our normal setup but it settled in quite well. The biggest difference we have noticed in the car is going around high speed corners. We've still got a few tweaks to make to make it that little bit better but overall it's reasonably balanced so we're quite excited and so we can't wait to go to Clipsal."
Tim Edwards – Team Principal:
“Overall we are really encouraged by the development work we undertook this weekend, not only on the FG X but by the team as a whole. Of course to see the big gain in one lap pace with Chaz’s effort in the shootout was a big bonus, I think we all feel the gains we believed we’d found with the FG X have come to life so it gives us a good base to work from for Clipsal and beyond.”
