Chaz elated as frosty deflated

3 August 2014

Frost had a tyre blow putting him back to 22

Ford Pepsi Max Crew’s Chaz Mostert again showed his emerging class with a smart drive to third securing his second podium in as many days at Queensland Raceway.

He qualified stronger than his Saturday efforts and a good start, the right strategy and solid driving brought home another finish on the rostrum.
Frosty looked set to challenge his team-mate for a podium place only to be ruled out of contention by a puncture caused by the outside edge of a kerb soon after his final pit stop.
He had pace over his main title rival but the puncture and resultant loss of points sees him drop to second, just 15 points back.

Qualifying: 8th
Result: 22nd
“It was a tough day. We were trucking along well in the second stint but the puncture obviously hurt our chances. We’ll keep fighting of course and we’re not doing too much wrong at the moment. It was a points hit but if we are quick enough we’ll make it back up there easily enough. Chaz was quick and there are positives to take away so we’ll bounce back.”

Result: 3rd
“It was pretty fantastic to get third in the end. James Moffat had some pace on us but we got the better of him. I thought we would’ve been stronger in practice so we need to try and get on with our program earlier in the weekend to help our development rate. To come away with two thirds gives me great confidence and we had the set-up to punch away at the front. I am looking forward to getting to the next event in Sydney.”
Tim Edwards – Team Principal:
“A day of mixed emotions for our team with another podium well-deserved for Chaz after he strung together another great drive. Frosty and Dave were curtailed by punctures and while we lost the points lead today the gap is small and we know if not for punctures we probably would’ve grown our lead. But, we won’t dwell on it and it’s now focus on the final event before the Endurance Cup.”

DUNLOP SERIES – IPSWICH WRAP
Cameron Waters put in a strong Sunday drive to finish third in the final race of the Dunlop Series at Ipswich after starting from 19th following a troubled Saturday race. Waters moved quickly through the field to gain 16 places in the race, finishing on the race rostrum. After being involved in contact in Saturday’s race he dropped laps to finish near the back of the field, relegating him down the order for the final race. His aggressive yet measured drive claimed enough points to place him ninth for the event and now sixth overall.
Cameron Waters - #56 ENZED FPR Ford:
“I’m disappointed we weren’t able to convert our pace into the results we know our car is capable of, but we bounced back well on Sunday. The incident on Saturday was my fault, I basically had a really fast car and needed to use it early, so I took the first opportunity possible to pass Pither for second but I just couldn’t make it work. I did try to get out of the move but before I knew it I was in Chris’ door. Sunday’s race was a lot of fun passing so many cars. I used my tyres coming through the field so once I got to third I couldn’t go much quicker, but it was about as good a comeback as we could have hoped for. We’re not out of the fight for the championship yet and we’ll be pushing for maximum points from Bathurst.”
