Frosty wins at the AGP

Ford Performance Racing claimed its third win from as many starts at the Australian Grand Prix with Mark Winterbottom winning a shortened race following an opening lap incident which blocked the track.

Winterbottom avoided the carnage and then took the lead of the restarted race and was never headed. Will Davison again bucked the early pit trend and pitted on the final lap to switch to hard tyres.

He returned with cold tyres and held off a fast finishing Garth Tander on warm soft tyres for much of the final lap, before being passed in a great battle for second.

David Reynolds sustained minor rear end damage in the first lap carnage before going on to record another top 10 place with 10th at the chequered flag.

DRIVERS’ VIEW
Mark Winterbottom – #5 Orrcon Steel FPR Ford
Race 3: 1st – Best lap: 1m56.33s
“My first start was atrocious so I am glad the race was red flagged. The second was much better and that made the difference. The car was great and despite it being a short race we were motoring and had great pace. I got a slight gap on Garth (Tander) and I knew he was quick but had to keep pushing to ensure I could get out in front of Will. He had a great battle and I was watching the big screen on the last lap and cheered him on. He did very well on hard tyres. Today is another great day for the team.”

Will Davison – #6 Tradingpost FPR Ford
Race 3: 3rd – Best lap: 1m57.14s
“It was a pretty exciting finish to the race. We ran the same strategy as yesterday when the race was shortened and just pressed on as hard as we could. The car is hanging onto its tyres brilliantly well and the battle for third was great. It is just a shame that the pit lane is so long here as I was sitting in the car waiting to re-join and could see the others coming on the big screen and couldn’t do anything about it. I tried as hard as I could on cold, hard tyres but I couldn’t hold off Garth (Tander). I did what I could and it was a good show which is what this weekend is all about.”

David Reynolds – #55 The Bottle-O FPR Ford
Race 3: 10th – Best lap: 1m57.70s
“It was a very intense race and everyone was going out of control. I got bashed from pillar to post. We tried a big set-up variance and it didn’t really work as planned. Despite the fact it didn’t work we learnt more about the car again today and came away with yet another top 10. I’m sure things will be better tomorrow.”
Tim Edwards – FPR Team Principal
“Three wins from three races is a great achievement for Frosty and the team. Today’s race was probably the most difficult due to its shortened length and the resultant pit strategy. Will almost pulled off second place and we were surprised he was able to hold on so long to second place on what was a very entertaining last lap. David lodged some valuable seat time again and after somehow surviving the opening lap carnage he recorded another top 10 result.”
