Frosy grabs pole position and finishes 4th

Mark Winterbottom has moved into sixth place in the V8 Supercar Championship Series, just 147 points off third-place Garth Tander, after the weekend’s racing at Queensland Raceway.

Frosty scored the most points overall for the weekend with a third-place finish yesterday and fourth today.

He started today's race from pole in the Orrcon Steel FPR Falcon but, after using his sprint tyres in yesterday’s outing, had a titanic battle to stay in contention.

“At the end I was physically tired but just tried to fight for the finish,” he said. “You never give up because it’s a podium you’re racing for and we want every last point.”

He eventually just missed the podium after Russell Ingall, on the faster soft tyre, passed him in the dying laps for third.

“The speed is good and I’m really happy with how the cars have gone and how hard the guys have worked,” said Frosty. “This is by far the best round we’ve had over two days and it’s the right time to do it, just before the enduros.”

Team-mate Steve Richards qualified tenth in the Castrol FPR Falcon and described this afternoon’s race as ‘one of the best’ in his career. He battled with Jason Bright and James Courtney for the entire 65 laps, keeping them both at bay for seventh place at the chequered flag.

“I couldn’t get over how good it was,” said Richo. “Everyone was leaving room but it was totally high-pressure the whole time and really good driving by everyone.

“It was hard work but I tried not to make any mistakes. My brakes were incredible so I just made sure I got good runs off the corners so they couldn’t pass me; I didn’t even need to block!”

FPR will be back on track in three weeks’ time for the L&H Phillip Island 500, the first race of this year’s Season of Endurance.
