Frosty qualifies 1st and Richo 2nd at Darwin

Ford Performance Racing will rule the front row in this afternoon's V8 Supercar Championship Series race at Hidden Valley, Darwin after qualifying first and second for the first time in its six-year history.

Mark Winterbottom put the #5 Orrcon Ford Credit FPR Falcon ahead of everyone else and said he had at least another 0.2s in the car. Steve Richards was just a fraction behind in the #6 Castrol FPR Falcon.

Race one starts this afternoon at 15:00.

Mark Winterbottom #5 Orrcon Ford Credit FPR Falcon
'It's a big drag into the first corner here and being first lets you control the race at your own leisure. You're not trying to jump past a guy in the pits or anything; just getting on with your own race.

'You don't get points for qualifying but it's good for your confidence. It's also probably the hardest part of the weekend because it's all about setting up. Now we've got to nail the start and go the race distance this afternoon.'

Steven Richards #6 Castrol FPR Falcon
'It feels fantastic to be part of such a significant result! You'd have to say that the cars are pretty close and both are setting the pace here.

'There's no doubt it's great for morale and clearly this result is largely down to the hard work the team puts in, not just over this weekend but for the years before it as well.

'From my point of view, we've come here with the #6 Castrol FPR Falcon and focused on smoothing out the weaknesses we found in the chassis at Sandown. We've made massive gains and I'm really pleased with how it's all going.'

Tim Edwards Team Principal
'It's a great sense of achievement for everybody; to have two cars up there proves we're consistently quick and it's not just a driver pulling a magical lap out of the bag. Now we need to back it up in the race.'
