  • Race 3 2nd
Championship 1st

This is a very fast circuit with the longest straight in the series, taking up 1.1km of the circuit's 2.9 km length. The actual circuit layout is not overly difficult, but the tropical heat - even in mid winter, makes this without a doubt one of the toughest races on the calendar. I won this round last year and have had some great races in Darwin, so it is up there with my best.

We are heading up north to one of my favorite events, we get to escape Melbourne's winter and enjoy some warm weather, fresh seafood on the wharf and competitive racing. In the past I have had good speed at this track, but luck has eluded me. We have a new Dunlop tyre for this event, it is manufactured in the same way, but has a different chemical in it which is better for the environment and those around it. This tyre is also meant to be a couple of tenths faster. On paper the track looks quite basic, but brake temperature can be a major issue, it is easy to lock the front left tyre in to turn 1 and lock the rears in to turn 4. We had a productive test day at winton, my confidence is high and I'm aiming to keep car 5 at the top of the ladder.

Post-race report

What a brilliant team result, to have Richo and I 1 and 2, a first for FPR. Qualifying and Race 1 went to Plan, finishing 1st. In Race 2 we got boxed in the pits by Rick Kelly which sent us from 1st to 3rd, when you are behind another car the engine and brakes overheat and loose performance, which makes it extremely hard to pass. In Race 3 I flat spotted a tyre coming in to the pits, so I wasn't able to push too hard and consolidated 2nd. We are on top of the ladder and extended our driver and team championship lead. It doesn't get much better than this.
